Constipation Associated with Cow's Milk Allergy

It is more common to see diarrhoea with food allergies, but in a study of 12 children with constipation dramatic improvements were seen by removing all dairy products from the diet. After ten months on the diet, 9 of the children suffered a relapse of symptoms when they were challenged with dairy. After 22 months of the diet the same group was challenged with dairy and this time none of them had a return of symptoms. The author of the study was not able to explain the mechanism (Clin Pedeatr 40, 3990402 (2001))
